Persepolis (550-330 BC) is one of the most ancient historical sites in Iran. It was started by Darius I in 510 BC and finished by Xerxes I in 480 BC as the virtual-ceremonial-religious capital city of Achaemenid located in the plains of Marvdasht, at the foot of Kuh-e Rahmat, encircled by southern Zagros mountains of the Iranian plateau. It was destroyed by Alexander the Great during his conquests. Persepolis complex consists of several palaces and different places such as Hadish, Apadana, Tachara, The Council Hall, The Tryplion Hall, Tombs, etc.
Perspolise was registered in UNESCO as the second world heritage site of Iran 1979.
